Worship

But the hour is coming, and is here now, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. - John 4:23

You were created for worship. But you and I tend to look in all the wrong places to find the joy God intended us to experience in Him alone. In fact the discovery of ultimate happiness and fulfillment comes as a by-product of authentic God-centered worship. That is why the catechism teaches that your purpose in life is “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”1

Real worship is an engaging, life-transforming dialogue with God. Effective worship turns you away from the trivial and artificial “objects of worship” which captivate your heart and returns you to the person of true worship—the infinite, eternal and unchangeable God. You cannot come into the awesome presence of the true God and leave unchanged. Southside’s Worship Celebration is structured to lead you to a powerful encounter with the living God.

Because worship is God’s idea, all aspects must be directed and informed by His word. Biblical worship involves giving your life to God in praise, honor and gratitude. But it is only by grace that you approach the holy God. God’s grace comes freely because of the person and work of Jesus Christ and the divine initiative of the Holy Spirit. Biblically guided worship must be God honoring, Christ-centered and Spirit-driven.

Worship has always been, and continues to be the most important activity of the life of a local church. We worship God in the context of our contemporary South Texas culture at the beginning of the 21st century. The forms that structure our worship are also connected to the rich history of the worship of God’s people in the past. Consequently, Southside’s participatory style of worship is rooted in the richness of the past, flourishes with the freshness of the present, and is growing in eager anticipation of the future. We draw upon the abundant resources of those who have gone before us by making use of ancient hymns, creeds and liturgical forms. But we also utilize current idioms, musical styles and hymns arising in the present. Click here to see a sample of our Order of Worship.

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! - Revelation 22:20
